 Altruism is the principle or practice of unselfish concern for the welfare of others. It involves acting to help someone else at some cost or risk to yourself, without expecting personal gain, recognition, or reward in return.  All of our volunteer members share this trait and we are not doing this to get rich or seek fame.  We are simply doing this for a paycheck of the heart.  We want to help our neighbors and our community. That's it.

Joining Indiana Militia is simple! Just message us and we will meet you in person.  You must be a resident of Indiana, an able body person, have transportation and means to take care of yourself.  This is a volunteer organization.  We will not be providing weapons, do not ask.  You will provide your own protection and gear.  Special circumstances will be considered.  See our JOIN NOW page.

We organize a variety of events throughout the year, including things listed on the PROGRAMS page. Our events are designed to train & educate and are open to all members of Indiana Militia.

NO - Militias are 100% legal and protected by the United States Constitution under Amendments I (Freedom of Assembly) and II (Well Regulated Militia & Right to Bear Arms), and also the Indiana State Constitution under Article 12.

GOOGLE, the news media, the National Guard, Southern Poverty Law Center, Georgetown Law, and The Trace have perpetuated a rumor that "unregulated militia is illegal"; this is false and factually inaccurate.  The only thing that makes a militia "illegal" is if its members are committing illegal acts, like talking about overthrowing the government (sedition) or planning terrorist acts.  Other illegal activities include making bombs, possessing contraband items or conspiring to commit illegal acts.  Indiana Militia does not condone any illegal acts and actively supports the state and federal government, the military, law enforcement, and EMS.   At the time of writing this June 2026, there have officially been zero (0) people arrested and/or prosecuted for being in a militia group in the United States of America.

If you can look at our website through all the acts of community service, kindness, and goodwill and think we are a hate group, you may want to consider that you are perhaps part of the problem.   The only thing we hate is that ridiculous question.  Our hearts and minds are open to all sexes, races, and religions.

The word militia is not bad, nor is it a bad word.  It is literally in the Constitution of the United States, Amendment II.  "A well regulated militia..."  If you think a word is bad or scary, no offense, but we do not need you.

No.  While some of our members are Christians, and we have faith services on Sundays if we have a militia FTX, we are not a specific faith.  We believe in the 1st Amendment, " Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof..."  We run things like the Military and will make specific accommodations for any members who are of any faith.  If we need to have a Christian, Muslim, Hindu, Norse-pagan, Jewish or any other religious ceremony within reason, that is totally fine and acceptable.  We believe in "We the People". 

While we have members who still like Republicans or Democrats, most of us think the two party system is just an illusion of choice that doesn't really exist.  We are a non political organization.  We believe real change will come from participatory citizenship and being involved in your local community.  We believe doing things like loving your neighbors, giving your time through acts of kindness and goodwill, peacefully protesting in real life, looking for a missing person, helping in an emergency, and educating younger people about the Constitution will be the seeds of change.

We just started in February 2026, and we are growing steadily.  Joining now or joining later is your choice.  We will likely never get to a "bazillion people" if you don't join.  We have monthly meetings and meaningful trainings, so it will not be a waste of time.  The training, new skills, the camaraderie, new friends, the feeling of doing good in your community, networking with like minded people are all worthwhile positive things that will enrich your lives.  Also, we are building a strong cadre of leaders to have self sufficient county groups.  Being a founding or early member could put you in charge in your area.

While we have the utmost respect for members of law enforcement, state and local police, and the Sheriff's departments, and often work closely with them in emergencies or looking for missing persons, we are not the police.  We do not police citizens, report our friends and neighbors, or carry out any vigilante duties.  While helping in an emergency or looking for a missing person, we will not report any drug activities or petty crime;  that is not what we do and quite frankly none of our business.  There is already plenty of policing going on.

This is another silly trolling question we get from keyboard cowboys who want to be experts on what we are about, but never have the courage to get up and go outside and do good or help anyone in real life; it's always safest to criticize from your computer.  The fact is, we personally know every member and have properly vetted everyone.  We are not concerned about federal agents, because we are not doing anything illegal or trying to overthrow the government.  If the federal agents want to sacrifice a day or two to train, help us find a missing person, or help in the local community, we think that's awesome and we appreciate the help.

Absolutely not.  We already ask a lot of our members like time, uniforms, gas, equipment just to name a few things.  We would rather see our members spending the dues money on their gear or their families.  Money is the root of all evil in any organization.  It gives people something to fight about.  We help each other out, those of us who are more blessed than others will pitch in and help.  We are a big family.  Furthermore, for legal reasons collecting money can create pitfalls.  We just avoid it.  The organization is better for not getting money involved.

Once again, we believe in "We the People" and need to get out of the division mindset.  Your sexual preference is no one's business except you, God, and your adult consenting partner.  That being said, some members may have personal preferences or religious view that do not align.  No one will know or not know unless you actively mention it.  We do not sit around at meetings or training talking about sex or anything sexual.  Your God given or Constitutional Rights do not end because you are gay.  That's akin to saying people can not defend themselves or assemble because of their sex or skin color.

Our vetting team will meet you usually at a restaurant or public place.  Usually a man and a woman in Tiger Stripes will ask you about yourself, military/EMS/Militia experience, education, profession, hobbies, interests, why you want to join.  You are being evaluated, first impressions are important.  Being polite and on time is key.  We have overwhelming response to the website and we have a lot of people to meet and vet.  That's a good thing.  If you stand us up and/or cancel, you are showing us that you are unreliable and willing to waste our time.  We aren't trying to be mean, we just have a lot of other good people to get to.  We have 7 million people in this state to choose from, we can be picky.
